Direct answer

The best Build 42 base is a property with at least two escape options, dependable water planning, vehicle access, enough open land for your chosen systems, and a sustainable loot route. A dramatic POI is not automatically a practical daily base.

Do this first

  1. Score exits and exterior visibility first.
  2. Check water, road access, parking, and nearby fuel assumptions.
  3. Measure open land for farming or livestock if needed.
  4. Estimate the recurring loot and travel loop.
  5. Use the site temporarily before moving all supplies.

Score the daily loop

A base is used repeatedly. Rate the safe trip to water, food, tools, vehicles, and the next destination—not only walls and gates.

  • Multiple exits
  • Water plan
  • Vehicle access
  • Open land
  • Storage and workstation space
  • Reasonable travel to loot

Build 42 adds new requirements

Animals and deeper crafting can make rural space, shelter, material flow, and workstations more valuable than they were in a short Build 41 run. Decide which systems your base must support before ranking locations.

Use a probation period

Sleep there, run a few supply trips, observe traffic and darkness, and test escape routes. Move rare items only after the location survives ordinary use.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is a basement automatically a good base?

No. It can add storage or concealment, but exits, water, vehicles, and the surface property still decide daily safety.

What makes a good animal base?

Favor suitable open land, manageable perimeter, shelter planning, water and feed logistics, and safe transport access.
